Current Safety Initiatives
Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church and School prioritize the safety of its students, parishioners, staff, and visitors with a variety of safety Policies, Procedures, and Safeguards including, but not limited to, maintaining a locked facility, utilizing a video camera monitoring system, implementing visitor policies and limited entry points, participating in regular safety training drills (fire, tornado, intruder, etc.), encouraging regular police presence on campus, and maintaining close coordination with the Delafield Police Department and Lake Country Fire and Rescue.

In addition, the following initiatives (and others not mentioned below) are currently being implemented and are in various stages:
1. Formalization of Feedback Loops
Feedback loops are the structured flow of information at DR. Due to security reasons, the exact loops cannot be shared; however, parents should know to utilize their respective HOMEROOM teacher for getting information as well as submitting feedback in an emergency.
Update: Now that teachers and staff all have walkie talkies, they are also equipped on when to use them for "all calls" and "departement/group" calls to communication quickly. They have already proved very useful and effective for communication. Parents should still utilize their homeroom teachers for communication.

2. Creation of a public web-based Safety Landing Page
This intiative is completed with the creation of drlc.org/safety. This page will be updated and time-stamped when updated.
3. Digital Mapping - Critical Response Group

Digital Mapping has been completed at the main campus with a grant from the Department of Justice (DOJ). Digital Mapping is in progress for the new ECDC building. Digital mapping completes CRGs for a campus.
Collaborative Response Graphics® (CRGs®) are site-specific common operating pictures that enable better communication during an emergency. CRGs combine accurate floor plans, high resolution imagery, emergency response pre-planning, and a gridded-overlay into one map. Critical Response Group builds CRGs and distributes them to first responders for use in their pre-existing software applications and provides the necessary training to ensure full implementation.
4. Creation of a School Safety Consultation Team
While staff is trained in Safety and participates in their respective areas, the school is implementing the creation of a Safety Consultation Team made up of non-staff members. So far the team is made up:
- Parent local police officer, name not shared
- Parent local public school administrator, Alli Hedrick
- Parent local builder/developer, Matt & Amy Neumann
- Parent local firefighter, Austin Wolf
The Safety Consultation Team met on April 7th
and reviewed current procedures, discussed
forms of communication,

5. Lion Security Assessment & Training

We are working with Lions Safety Consulting and Dr. Julian Petzold https://lionsafetyconsulting.com/services/ to schedule their full safety consulting and training services. You can check out his credentials on the website but my favorite thing about him, as opposed to other outside companies, is that he has been a school principal and ECDC director so he understands how schools work. Stay tuned as we get more details on training dates, which will include a parent safety meeting!

This piece includes BOTH the full Assessment + Staff Training!!!

Dr. Julian Petzold earned his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and conducted research on best practices in school safety. Through his extensive research, he learned that there is a lack of school safety plans that are practical, and therefore useful. His desire is to bring the practical side of safety to schools, early childhood centers, and churches in order to empower them to be confident when a crisis occurs. Dr. Petzold is committed to helping others succeed. As an educational leader for 28 years, he has the experience to know how to effectively teach, lead, and guide others toward success.

Dr. Julian Petzold visited on campus in March 24th, 2025 for his onsite portion of the Security Assessment.

6. Emergency Management Team Creation
This initiative is completed as part and as a result of the Lion Security Assessment.
Safety Links & Documents
DISCLAIMER: This safety landing page contains a limited amount of public information about the Safety posture of Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church & School in order to establish the most safe and secure environment for our students, parishioners, teachers, and staff. For example: our Emergency Response Handbook* is not a publically available document for safety reasons, but can be provided upon request if authorized.
*The purpose of Emergency Response Handbook is to serve as a quick reference guide at the time of an emergency. Administration and staff should become familiar with it’s contents prior to an emergency. The Divine Redeemer Policies should be viewed as the underlying support in all situations.
