KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

​Throughout the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus often begins His teachings with the phrase, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like…” These words invite us to look beyond our simplified, Sunday school ideas of heaven — not as a faraway place we someday reach, but as a present and life-altering reality that transforms how we live and how we see our God.

In this series, we’ll explore four of Jesus’ parables and teachings that open our eyes to the depth and power of this Kingdom message.

Week 1 – The Hidden Treasure and the Pearl of Great Price
We’ll begin with the parables of the treasure hidden in a field and the pearl of great value. Both reveal the immeasurable worth of the Gospel — a treasure so valuable it’s worth giving up everything else to possess. Together, we’ll ask: What is our greatest treasure?

Week 2 – The Wedding Feast
Next, we’ll look at Jesus’ parable of the wedding feast, where those first invited reject the invitation, but others — both good and bad — are gathered in. Here we’ll see the Lord’s deep compassion and grace that invite all to the feast of the Lamb, along with the sober reminder to be ready and robed in His righteousness when we arrive.

Week 3 – The Sower and the Seed
We’ll then reflect on the parable of the Sower — how the Word of God is scattered with generosity to all hearts, regardless of their condition. As we consider the different kinds of soil, we’ll be reminded of the Lord’s patient invitation for every heart to receive His Word and bear fruit.

Week 4 – The Ten Virgins and Lamp Oil
Finally, we’ll close with the parable of the ten virgins, reflecting on what it means to stay faithful and prepared while we wait for the Bridegroom to return. Even in the quiet, in-between moments — while we “sleep” — the Kingdom calls us to readiness, hope, and trust in Christ’s promise.

Together, these parables invite us to rediscover the Kingdom of Heaven — not as something distant, but as a living reality that transforms our hearts and lives today.
